About SME Instrument Horizon 2020 Project
Simplifying Aerial Intelligence
Prior to the commencement of the H2020 SME project DroneGrid (aka Sitemark since May 2018) was already in discussions with some of Europes leading enterprises within Construction (Roads and Bridges), Energy (Solar and Wind), and Mining (Equipment Inspections and Open Pit Mining).
Trial projects were planned throughout the development and commercialization phase of the Sitemark solution over a 24-month project period. This was done primarily to ensure high product/partner satisfaction, strong overall product/industry fit. Another reason for performing projects over multiple test sites in different locations was to ensure adequate data was being gathered to train the machine learning algorithms during the course of the H2020 SME project.
Receiving this funding is a great vote of confidence by the EU and it makes us very proud and resolute in our commitment towards innovation and growth. This funding will be used towards developing new solutions for inspections of vertical structures within the existing 3 industries where Sitemark operates: Mining, Construction, and Energy. Examples of where our solution is currently deployed include the building of some of the largest wind farms in Africa, an inspection of complex conveyor belt structures in Europes largest open-pit mine, and construction monitoring on the A7 and A9 highways in Germany.

The funding will go towards establishing a local presence in markets like India, Japan, Australia, and the US. These countries are becoming some of Sitemark’s key markets outside of Europe. Additionally, our team in Europe will be welcoming an additional 8 to 10 new talented individuals to our already growing team to further support the companies new ambitions.
