Expanding our global operations is at the forefront of our growth plans here at Sitemark. Our recent operations in South Africa marked the beginning of our presence in the African continent. Here’s a snapshot of our experiences there.
The strong demand for renewable energy in the continent is giving way to a projected boost of more than 70% cumulative capacity by 2022. It’s therefore essential for enterprises in the PV industry to rely on partners that ensure productivity, maximum profitability, and operational efficiencies across the entire lifecycle of their solar sites.
Our first mission in the continent began thanks to our partnership with New Southern Energy (NSE), South Africa based renewable energy provider. We inspected two sites from NSE’s customer Mulilo. One 10MW site, another of 20MW.
Our experience in South Africa further validates that our methods and technology are scalable no matter the location and project. It is important, however, to understand how local realities can have an impact on the successful execution of the operation. Larger travel distances can add constrains in terms of pilot availability and planning. Transfer speed due to slower internet connections can also add certain constrains when needing to transfer and/or upload large amounts to data.
Existing local regulation pertaining to UAVs makes it essential to work with the right partners. We’ve had the opportunity to work with the qualified pilots from Visual Air, a South African RPAS operator with over 21 years of experience in this field. Their professionalism and expertise was pivotal in the success of our missions in the country.
This is only the beginning of our growth projects. Our roadmap includes additional locations in South Africa and new projects in Zambia and Senegal. With every new location and operation we take further steps along our commitment to provide world class solutions to our customers across the globe.
